TECHNOLOGY
Our focus is on creating custom highly-scalable, extensible and maintainable applications that last. To do this, we've adopted two very successful design strategies. They are Object Orientation and Microsoft's Web Solution Platform n-tier architecture (formerly known as "Windows DNA").
Object Orientation allows for intuitive design of the software which simulates real-world business.
WEB SOLUTION PLATFORM (WINDOWS DNA)
Microsoft's Web Solution Platform is the next generation architecture based
on Windows DNA and is therefore industry
proven, scales extremely well, and lends
itself to clean object-oriented design principles. This architecture is
also known as "n-tier" or "3-tier" which is the most
up-to-date approach to software design today. Microsoft's Web Solution
Platform is the architecture of choice for Microsoft
Visual Studio.NET.
(Visual
Studio.NET is Microsoft's next
generation toolset for building Web, mobile, and desktop applications.)
N-TIER ARCHITECTURE
The idea behind n-tier design is to fully separate the business logic of the
application from the presentation, or Graphical User Interface, portion.
We take this one step further by
separating all data functions into a physically separate tier composed of stateless objects.
This additional layer allows us to leverage the benefits of COM+ Services
(formerly MTS),
and provides additional options for load balancing.
BENEFITS OF
THIS TECHNOLOGY
Through our approach of designing prior to building, object-orientation, and
Microsoft's Web Solution Platform n-tier architecture, our clients can expect the following benefits when
compared to more common programming techniques:
Lower overall development costs
Lower future maintenance costs
Full confidence that the end-result will satisfy all requirements correctly
Closer integration of the application with existing applications and business processes
Ability to run more applications simultaneously on each server
Ability to accommodate a larger number of users (high-scalability)
Ability to have multiple other applications, even spreadsheets, interact directly with the business logic of the new application
Ability to enhance the application with new functionality with confidence that existing functionality will not be "broken" by the addition of new code (extensibility).
A full set of technical documentation including the graphical object model used for design and an as-built final object model so future application updates can be accomplished with pin-point accuracy, reducing costs
Typically, a deeper understanding of the client's own business processes
ADDITIONAL THIN-CLIENT
BENEFITS
When a web based thin-client design is desirable, the following additional
benefits are realized:
Zero desktop maintenance costs (no software needs to be installed or updated on the desktop computers)
Near instant and painless rollout of application updates to every user simultaneously (regardless of the user's location)
Ability for employees to access applications securely from home or remote locations without requiring the application to be installed on the employee's computer
Employees can run the application on their Macintosh, Windows, Unix computers plus PDAs (Personal Data Assistants) and WAP enabled cell phones (assuming a secure tcp/ip infrastructure exists like RAS, VPN or MSIS)
